Norbert Dentressangle is supporting the 100th anniversary of the discovery of stainless steel in Sheffield by transporting two 3 metre high horse heads, known as Kelpies, from Scotland to a series of events on behalf of long term customer Outokumpu Stainless.
As part of the celebrations, Outokumpu, has supplied the sheet materials used to form the exterior skin of the Kelpies, which have been designed by Mr Andy Scott, a Scottish sculptor.
Weighing a total of 1,400 kg, Norbert Dentressangle’s dedicated network, Red Inside, transported the horse heads from a workshop in Falkirk to the 100 years of stainless international conference and exhibition at the University of Sheffield and also undertook a tour of the city’s streets.
The centrepiece sculptures are now on display at Outokumpu’s UK headquarters in Sheffield, as the company hosts an anniversary event attended by Finnish Ambassador, Mr Pekka Huhtaniemi and from Norbert Dentressangle Transport Services, Mr Mike Bridges, Managing Director, and Mr Dave Finnie, Director of Specialist Services.
Mr Mike said that “We’ve worked with Outokumpu for nearly 25 years and we’re delighted to be involved in helping the company celebrate the centenary of the stainless steel industry, a development that revolutionized the industrial world. Our normal Outokumpu distribution operation consists of delivering stainless steel coil, sheet and plate to customers across the UK, so transporting the Kelpies is an unusual project.”
