ASTM B163/B165 Monel 400/UNS N04400/Nickel Alloy Seamless Tube
Monel400 is the corrosion-resistant alloy with the largest amount, the most versatile and excellent comprehensive performance. The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in hydrofluoric acid and fluorine gas media, and excellent corrosion resistance to hot concentrated alkali liquor. It is also resistant to corrosion by neutral solutions, water, sea water, atmosphere, organic compounds, etc. An important feature of this alloy is that stress corrosion cracking is generally not produced and the cutting performance is good.
The chemical composition of Monel400 alloy is mainly composed of 30% Cu and 65% Ni plus a small amount of Fe (1%-2%). Due to differences in chemical composition, it can have a variety of alloy grades, but there is no significant difference in corrosion resistance between them. Monel400 alloy is more resistant to corrosion by reducing media than pure nickel, and is more resistant to corrosion by oxidizing media than pure copper.

The chemical element composition of Monel400 alloy: C: ≤0.3, Si: ≤0.50, Mn: ≤2.0, Ni: ≥63, Cu: 28~34, S: ≤ 0.024, Fe ≤ 2.5, Unit: %
The chemical composition of Monel400 alloy consists mainly of 30% Cu and 65% Ni plus a small amount of Fe (1% - 2%). The tissue structure is a typical single-phase austenite structure. Since nickel and copper are mutually soluble in any ratio, there is generally no intermetallic phase precipitation. Observing the microstructure of the alloy under non-etching conditions under a metallographic microscope, it can be seen that there is a very diffuse non-metallic inclusion on the austenite matrix, such as sulfides and silicates. Under certain conditions, the presence of carbides was also observed.
